A2 MEDIA - ADVANCED PRODUCTION BLOGS

Dear all,

Ensure your blogs are all up to date before this Wednesday's lesson (3rd Dec).  Check you have the following added to your blogs:

• Audience Research e.g. IMDB, Metacritic, Netflix

• Audience interviews on your genre and your final products

• Production Company research

• Distribution Company research

Horror: Opening Sequence Analysis

AS Students as part of your Production coursework you need to produce a written analysis of two horror opening sequences. Analyse these films in terms of: the conventions of opening titles, the conventions of horror genre present in the opening, the mise en scene, camera, sound and editing. Observe both DENOTATION and CONNOTATION and use media terminology. 1500 words in total please. Please find some examples below which you are welcome to use:

A2 FILMING FILMING AND FILMING

Dear all,

Please be aware you only have access to college cameras this week (week beginning 20th October) and next week (week beginning 26th October).

It is really important you set your filming dates as early as possible to allow for any potential problems or delays.  Please leave room for pick up shots or repeat shots if necessary.

Remember to show me all your production paperwork before you film and book your equipment with Gabbie or Steve in Room E103 well in advance.

Gabbie and Steve will only be here from Monday to Wednesday during half term week.  

You will be editing your footage after half term week.

During progression week which is the week beginning 20th October you will need to sign up for an individual tutorial to discuss your coursework essay.  Please could you sign up during class time this week?  I will put the list on the back of the door in DG08.

A2 Social Realist Trailer Analysis

Dear A2 Media Students. As part of your research for your Production coursework you will need to analyse at least 3 Social Realist Trailers individually.  You will need to engage in close textual analysis, paying close attention to Camera, Sound, Editing, Mise en Scene and Graphics. This work will be emailed to me by Wednesday 7th October to:  c.eastwood@cant-col.ac.uk
Once marked the best work will then be uploaded to your own blogs.

A2 FM3: Small Scale Research Project Coursework

SUMMER PREPARATION - RESEARCH

In preparation for September it is crucial you all start preparing for your coursework unit FM3: Small Scale Research project.  The areas for study criteria are listed below and you will need to choose a specific research area which fits into one of these:

• Genre
• Auteur
• Social, political and cultural studies
• Gender issues
• Ethnicity
• Star/ Performer
• Institution
• Technology

An excellent starting point is to think of some of your favourite films and think of the reasons why.  For example, you might choose 'Aliens' and your reason for you liking this film could be the representation of a strong female character.  You would then need to tailor a research statement from this interest.


You will need to complete an FM3 submission form for your research by Tuesday 9th September for me to submit for the examination board's deadline.
